Fans of prime-time, Emmy-winning drama “Scandal”—we have some bad news. TVLine has reported that the Shonda Rhimes-created series will end with its seventh and final season.

The ending shouldn’t come as too big of a shock to die-hard fans, as Rhimes had previously commented that the show can’t last forever, telling NPR in 2013, “I feel like there is a finite amount of ‘Scandal’ to be told. So I know what the end of ‘Scandal’ will be, and I feel really good about that.”

In honor of the end of an era, we’re counting down some of the best and most memorable moments from the much-loved television show.

1. Mellie lies about having a miscarriage to win over voters.

Mellie Grant, who plays 45th President of the United States, is a political force to be reckoned with. And she knows no bounds when it comes to getting votes. Faking a miscarriage to win an election seems pretty extreme, but not for Grant. Turns out preying on people’s sympathy works, at least in the world of “Scandal,” where her stunt handily won her husband the election.

2. Olivia and Fitz break up.

“Scandal” is as much about relationships as it is about politics. Olivia and Fitz are right up there with Ricky and Lucy and Ross and Rachel when it comes to iconic TV couples. Their breakup scene from Season 2 is seriously emotional.

3. Olivia tries to escape her kidnappers.

While it may seem like there’s nothing Kerry Washington’s Olivia Pope can’t handle, when she was held hostage in an abandoned building in Season 4, it almost looked like she might not make it. Olivia is eventually freed when she is sold on the black market for $2 billion, but in the meantime she ended up attacking and killing some of her kidnappers.

4. They rig a presidential election.

“Scandal” wouldn’t be “Scandal” without some majorly shocking twists. While the series gives us plenty to choose from, we think the plot to rig the election in Season 2 takes the cake. Viewers were shocked when five of “Scandal’s” major characters turned out to be in cahoots in a scheme to ensure that Fitz emerged victorious.

5. Fitz kills Verna Thornton.

While murder isn’t exactly a rare occurrence on “Scandal,” when The President kills his appointed Supreme Court Justice, Verna Thornton, in Season 2, it’s still unexpected.
