This device you attach to your phone lets you see through walls
If you ever bought a pair of X-ray glasses as a kid, you were probably pretty disappointed when you put them on and couldn’t see through anything. As adults, we all know that there’s no magical object that allows you to see through things and fits right in your pocket.
Or is there?
Walabot DIY is a small device that you can attach to your Android smartphone—sorry, iPhone users, it’s not available for iOS right now—which enables you to see right through your walls. Sort of.
Not Just An App
This is not just some app you can download for free, but rather a separate imaging device that connects to your phone via a USB cable. With the Walabot DIY, which is about the same size and shape as a phone, and the corresponding app, you can “see” 4 inches (10 centimeters) behind your walls.
Thankfully, the device doesn’t allow users to spy on people in another room! Instead, it allows users to see the shape, size and depth of objects behind their walls, such as pipes or wiring. This could come in very handy during home improvement projects.
Putting The Walabot To Use
Since it works on both concrete and drywall, you can use the Walabot to find plastic or metal pipes, studs and wires, which is especially handy when you are hammering, drilling or sawing into a wall. You can also see moving objects, such as tubing as you are routing it behind a wall. It even allows you to see critters if you are concerned there are some living behind your walls.
This video gives you a glimpse into how the device works with your phone.
The Walabot is available in the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Australia and Canada for about $160 (although, at the time of publication, the company is offering it for half that price).
What About iPhones?
The creator of this device is reportedly working on a version for iOS. You can sign up on Walabot’s website and the company will notify you when it becomes available.
