Selena Gomez hung out with fans at prom for children’s hospital patients

Selena Gomez has seen her fair share of hospital rooms. She’s battled lupus, and, in September, the singer opened up about having to undergo a kidney transplant. Now that she’s recovered, she’s taking time to give back to fans of hers in a meaningful way.

On June 23, Gomez visited the Children’s Hospital Orange County’s oncology prom event and left nothing but smiles on the faces of all those in attendance! Photos of her posing with fans flooded the internet — and they couldn’t be more heart-warming.

“She is such a sweetheart for spending her time with these awesome kids and creating such a memorable moment they will never forget at CHOC prom night 2018,” the caption on one Instagram video of Gomez posing with a fan read.

Fans — and the hospital’s staff members — were understandably thrilled to see Gomez make an appearance.

“And then @selenagomez shows up at your prom …” the hospital wrote on Instagram.

Instagram user @kevinlejr described the entire evening as “lit” and sent a special thank you out to the evening’s special guests for showing up:

Gomez wasn’t the only celebrity to show up to the event, either. Actor Jack Black and “Grey’s Anatomy” star Kevin McKidd were also in attendance.

The Children’s Hospital prom night is a way for teen cancer patients as well as hospital staff and alumni to celebrate with a night of fun and dancing. This year’s prom night marked the 16th anniversary for the event, and the theme was “Around the World in One Night.”

“Though attending a traditional prom is not always possible for teens battling long-time, life-threatening illnesses, CHOC ensures patients don’t miss a chance to dance, celebrate their journeys and feel beautiful,” a hospital spokesperson said in a statement to NBC’s “Today.”

And surely, getting to hang out with Selena Gomez made the night even better.

Like the kids at the prom, Gomez understands what it’s like to be sidelined by a serious illness. When the singer decided to share the news of her kidney transplant with the world, she thanked the hospital staff, her family and her friends who supported her throughout the process.

“I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed,” she wrote on Instagram in 2017.

Gomez definitely understands the importance of having a solid support system, so it’s nice to see her show her support for the patients and staff at the children’s hospital. What a truly special evening!
