Fans of the Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla are celebrating, as Netflix announced that “Selena: The Series” will start streaming on Dec. 4. The announcement came from Netflix’s Latinx social media channel Con Todo. The premiere date and a teaser trailer were released alongside the message, “Every Legend Begins With a Dream.”

According to Deadline, “Selena: The Series” is a coming-of-age story following young Selena as her dreams of stardom come true. Viewers can expect high emotion and heartache as she and her family are forced to make life-changing decisions. Selena’s sister, Suzette Quintanilla, is an executive producer on the series, which consists of six one-hour episodes.

Here’s the Twitter announcement from Con Todo at @contodonetflix:

Christian Serratos (“The Walking Dead”) stars as Selena. Ricardo Chavira plays her father Abraham Quintanilla, while Gabriel Chavarria portrays her brother AB. Other regular cast members include Julio Macias, Jesse Posey, Hunter Reese Peña and Carlos Alfredo, Jr., while Juan Martinez, Daniela Estrada and Paul Rodriguez will have recurring roles.

The news was celebrated on Twitter, with many people revealing just how important Selena was to them when they were growing up.

“I related to her due to being a Chicana and she continues to inspire me to this day,” wrote @ButterflyWaffle.

Meanwhile, @breana_skelton showed her excitement with multiple exclamation marks and emojis. “I AM SO EXCITED!!! i’ve been waiting for this!!!!” she tweeted.

If you’re not familiar with Selena’s story, we won’t give anything away. She died in 1995, at the age of 23, and her death was front-page news around the world. Two years later, the movie “Selena” was released, with Jennifer Lopez in the lead (and her breakout) role. Selena’s family welcomed Lopez with open arms, even inviting her into her home while she prepared for the role. According to Good Morning America, the actress even spent nights sleeping in Selena’s bed.

And if don’t know her music, here’s an offering from the Selena OFFICIAL YouTube page, which is overseen by her family. This music video features the song “I Could Fall in Love.”
