Iconic children’s television show “Sesame Street” is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, and in honor of this important milestone, the program is getting its very own stamps from the U.S. Postal Service.  The stamp art features 16 of the most beloved characters from the classic show, including Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover and Zoe.

The stamps were designed by Derry Noyes, art director for the U.S. Postal Service. An exact release date for the samps has not yet been announced.

The stamps are meant to honor the cultural and educational impact of “Sesame Street.”

“The Postal Service honors ‘Sesame Street’ as one of the most influential and beloved children’s television shows,” reads the announcement from USPS. “For the last 50 years, it has provided educational programming and entertainment for generations of children throughout the country and around the world. ”

A study recently published in American Economic Journal: Applied Economics showed that kids who had access to the show before age 7 performed better in elementary school.  The show has also been credited with helping kids process and understand complex issues, including trauma, homelessness and cultural differences. There is also a study underway that will analyze the show’s impact on kids’ understanding of kindness and emotions.

Stamps are not the only new product honoring the show’s 50th anniversary. Toms shoes is also launching the “Sesame Street” X Toms Collection, which includes shoes with designs inspired by the show for women and kids. The shoes feature designs based on favorite characters like Bert and Ernie, Elmo and Cookie Monster. Like all Toms shoes, each purchase will result in a donation of a new pair to a child in need.
