The Shamrock Shake is back at McDonald’s

Spring may not be in the air quite yet throughout much of the country, but the Shamrock Shake is officially back at McDonald’s, which means winter is almost in the rearview mirror.

As usual, the minty shake is only available for a limited time, so be sure to snag one while you can. The fast-food chain took to social media to announce the return of the beloved green treat:

“The minty moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here: the Shamrock Shake is back!” they wrote alongside a video teasing tantalizing images of the shake.

On the McDonald’s site, the shake is described as “creamy, dreamy vanilla soft serve blended with Shamrock Shake syrup and topped with delicious whipped topping.”

Yum! The McFinder indicates that the Shamrock Shake will be available at participating restaurants through March 24. The festive dessert is perfect for celebrating St. Patrick’s Day on March 17, but really, there’s no bad time to enjoy one. It would be great to sip on while taking in a March Madness game, or maybe to celebrate the official first day of spring on March 20.

The Shamrock Shake was first introduced at McDonald’s back in 1970. Over the years, the flavoring has changed. At one time, it was made with vanilla soft serve and green food coloring, and did not have the mint taste it’s known for today. It continued to make a seasonal return annually, but was briefly discontinued in the 1990s. Thankfully, the chain listened to customer demand, and they once again resurrected the shake in the 2000s, and it’s still a favorite today.

David Zlotnick, senior director of global public relations for McDonald’s told Vox last year that the shake is “one of McDonald’s most popular seasonal menu items and has gained a cult-like following over the years.”

Will you enjoy a Shamrock Shake this season?
