October is Breast Cancer Awareness, and actress Shannen Doherty is sharing her own personal journey battling the disease. Since she was diagnosed in 2015, Doherty has been open on social media and in the press about her struggles and triumphs as she battles cancer.

Back in April, she shared this photo of herself getting prepped for a catscan alongside a caption about the new perspective living with cancer has given her. “Here’s the thing…. even with positive results, it’s the next five years that determine so much. So, let’s see how today turns out and then day by day. Live life to the fullest. Cherish every second. Love fiercely. And thank God for every second,” she wrote in part.

Now, the former star of “90210” and “Charmed” has once again taken to Instagram to speak out about this disease that affects so many people. She shared the below photo of herself holding clumps of her own hair with the following emotional caption:

“Breast Cancer Awareness month. This image is so personal to me. I had started chemo. Was using a cold cap in hope to not lose my hair. End result was clumps in my hands. I was sick, felt like I was losing myself. Gained people and lost people. Got weak and got strong. Felt ugly and yet more beautiful inside than I had ever felt before. I remember this like it was yesterday, like it was a minute ago. Cancer has so many phases. Shock, denial, acceptance, anger, resentment, rebellion, fear, appreciation, beauty. Remission. Even then, the phases keep coming. Cancer is with you forever. Those who have experienced it know that even after you’ve kicked it’s ass, it still impacts you, in good ways and bad. You still go thru the roller coaster of emotions. You still need support and love. And you can still grasp life and live, live live. #cancer #cancerslayer”

The actress has been in remission since April, but as she explains in her post, the trauma is still fresh, as she remembers starting chemo “like it was yesterday.”

People on Instagram chimed in with an outpouring of support and praise for the actress for being candid about this deeply personal experience.

“Keep fighting the fight sweetie……we’re all standing beside you 😍💕💕,” read one comment.

“Beautiful inside and out. Thank you for showing people how to grow and evolve,” said another.

We’re so glad Doherty continues to speak out about such an important topic, and we wish her a full recovery.
