Shawn Johnson East Is Pregnant After Suffering A Miscarriage

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson East and her husband, NFL player Andrew East, have some exciting news! The couple announced that they’re expecting a baby, sharing the news with their fans on Instagram on April 4.

The mom-to-be captioned a photo of herself and her husband showing off her baby bump with smiles from ear to ear, writing, “we cannot WAIT to welcome you to the world and shower you with love.” Addressing her husband, she also included “WE DID IT” in the sweet announcement:

The news comes a year and a half after the couple announced they’d had a miscarriage in a raw and emotional video. They filmed everything from the moment they found out they were unexpectedly pregnant to the moment they found out that Johnson East was miscarrying.

It was important for the couple to share their story and experience, they said. “We feel like a lot of people go through this so we wanted to share it,” Johnson East said at the beginning of the video.

The couple also explained, “The past 48 hours have been some of the happiest, scariest, and saddest times of my life. My husband Andrew and I found out that we were unexpectedly pregnant, only to find out hours later some tragic news. I have been crying more than I ever have, but am still optimistic for what is next.”

In a YouTube video announcing their pregnancy this time around, East said, “A year and a half ago, we went through something rather traumatic — Shawn did, specifically. We had a miscarriage, and so this baby … has been a long time coming”:

As 2018 came to close, the East family was looking towards the future, admitting that they were hopeful 2019 would involve “babies.”

Johnson East wrote on Instagram, “2018 you rocked but 2019… I feel like you’re going to be the best. Here’s to a year dedicated to serving, learning, and hopefully babies ;)”:

The parents-to-be are clearly thrilled to finally be able to share the news that they’re expecting — so much so that they’ve already created an Instagram account for Baby East so that they can post updates and share all of the tiny joys they’ll experience while waiting for their little one to arrive.

Speaking on behalf of their baby, they shared a photo with the caption, “I can’t wait to meet you guys!”:

Before the couple experienced their miscarriage, they bought a pair of tiny baby shoes — and they’re getting to break those out again.
