Watch Simone Biles make history with a double-double dismount on the balance beam
U.S. gymnast Simone Biles is a true champion. In one weekend, the legendary competitor made history TWICE as she completed two new moves that wowed spectators and judges.
On the balance beam, Biles completed a double-twist and double-somersault move called a double-double dismount. According to a story on the Team USA website, she’s the first woman to attempt this move during competition and pull it off successfully.
“The skill will be named after Biles once she competes it at an international meet, such as this fall’s world championships,” reads the report. “It would mark the third skill named after the 22-year-old, who already has eponymous skills on vault and floor exercise.”
Watch her complete the amazing dismount in this Team USA video posted to Twitter:

Incredible! She’s amazing.
Her talents didn’t stop there this weekend — Biles also made history by completing a triple-twist, double-flip move. Watch it in this tweeted video from NBC Sports:

The move gave her an easy first-place finish in the competition, but it also did something even bigger — it pushed her to tie the record for the most national titles. Biles now has six national titles, leaving her tied with Clara Schroth-Lomady, who set the record in the 1950s.
The awards for Biles at the competition didn’t stop with those two history-making moves. She also took first place in individual events for vault, balance beam and floor.
Biles finished third in uneven bars.
She’s simply incredible, and the USA is lucky to have her representing the country. Her Olympic medal count in 2016 includes four golds and one bronze!
Biles was born in 1997 in Columbus, Ohio, and her hometown is Spring, Texas. She began gymnastics in 2003 as a hobby — a hobby! According to Team USA, she owns the most world medals in U.S. history with 14, and she has the most world championship gold medals of any female gymnast, with 10.
Congrats, Simone!
