‘Simpsons’ Creator Matt Groening’s Princess-Focused Series Set to Premiere in August

Netflix

“The Simpsons” recently wrapped up its 29th season on Fox, but fans don’t have to wait too long for another dose of adult animated comedy from Matt Groening, the creator of the long-running sitcom. Groening’s new princess-centric series, “Disenchantment,” will hit Netflix on August 17 with its first 10 episodes.

The comedy-fantasy takes place in the medieval kingdom of Dreamland. According to the streaming service’s official description, the series “follows the misadventures of a hard-drinking princess, her feisty elf companion and her personal demon.”

Bean the princess will be voiced by “Broad City” star Abbi Jacobson. Nat Faxon, who voiced characters for a number of adult cartoons, including “Robot Chicken” and  “Family Guy,” will be the voice of Elfo the elf. Comedian Eric Andre, who is also lending his voice to the upcoming live-action reimagining of “The Lion King,” will voice the princess’s demon, Luci.

Netflix has released the first images from the show, and the style of animation seen on “The Simpsons” is clearly reflected in “Disenchantment.”

The animation is produced by Rough Draft Studios, the same studio behind another Groening creation,”Futurama.”

“Ultimately, ‘Disenchantment’ will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you,” Groening said in a statement last year.

Netflix has ordered 20 episodes of the show, but has not announced when the latter 10 episodes will premiere.
