To say that sippy cups are a passion subject of mine is a stretch, but to say that I am enraged by sippy cups that spill is 100 percent accurate. In my quest for spill-free living, I have tried almost every sippy cup on the market.
And, it’s not just me. Sippy cup reliability is one of the hottest topics on any playground. “Oh, what kind of cup is that?! Does it leak? Where can I buy it?”
I hold no sippy cup certification. My expertise lies only in that fact that I have two children, and I own every sippy cup on the market. So, for the love of carpets and couches everywhere, I am going to reveal my favorite sippy cups.
1. Munchkin Miracle 360 Sippy Cup
You guys, this cup is remarkable. I seriously can’t say enough about this cup. Children drink out of it like a normal cup, but it has this magic lid that requires sucking to get liquid and it really doesn’t leak. You can throw it in the dishwasher, throw it on the ground, drop it from the second story (seriously… my 2-year-old has tested this) and it won’t leak. Better, it is super easy to clean and comes in a whole bunch of cute designs (like the Hello Kitty version below). Munchkin Miracle 360 Sippy Cup, $12.99 for 2
2. Thermos Funtainer 12 Oz. Bottle
Ok, so this Thermos bottle is as leak-proof as it gets as long as the lid is snapped closed. This is a pretty important detail because kids aren’t always the best at follow-through, so you have to make sure they close the lid. But what it lacks in total practicality, it makes up for in the fact that liquid stays cold for a full 12 hours inside it. That means you can pack your kid a cup of milk for lunch without fear of curdling. Thermos Funtainer 12 oz. Bottle, $17.99
3. First Years Simple Sippy Cup
The name says it all — simple. This cup is great for a grab-and-go. It only has two pieces, so it is super easy to clean, assemble and fill. It has a design so simple you might think, “Well, surely it leaks.” But it doesn’t. I don’t know how or why, but it really works. This simple, inexpensive cup is a winner on every level. First Years Simple Sippy Cup, $4.65 for 2 Pack
4. Munchkin 2-Piece Click Lock Weighted Straw Cup
Sometimes kids get confused about how to drink, and rightly so. They have to learn to hold their cups down when drinking from a straw and up when drinking from any other kind of cup. The struggle is real. This cup gives kids a little help with its weighted straw. Confused drinkers everywhere rejoice! Regardless of how your tot holds his cup, liquid is guaranteed to come out until the very last drop. Bonus, it really is leak-proof. Munchkin Weighted Straw Cup, $12.99
5. Contigo Autospout Straw Water Bottle
OK, this one’s more a bottle than a cup. Still, it’s great for older kids who don’t want to drink from a sippy cup, but for the sake of spills (and your sanity) sometimes need a leak-proof option. As long as the straw in the down-and-locked position, you should be leak-free. Contigo Autospout Straw Water Bottle, $10.84
