Spicy Skittles are coming out this year

The Skittles you know and love will soon take on a whole new flavor, so prepare your palate. Wrigley recently announced that it will be debuting several new products at the National Confectioners Association (NCA) Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago—and Spicy Skittles are just one of the items headed to candy shelves in 2017.

Now, these aren’t replacing classic Skittles, they’re just providing fans with yet another way to enjoy the sweet (and now spicy?) treat. Skittles Sweet Heat will feature fruity flavors with a spicy kick. So, does that mean a hint of habanero will hit you? Or will it be a heat more comparable to cinnamon? Only time will tell! And we have to admit, we’re curious. It appears we’re not alone: People on social media are counting down the months until the spicy Skittles hit shelves.

Skittles aren’t the only candy getting a spicy makeover. The company is also introducing Sweet Heat Starbursts. So, yeah. Your taste buds are definitely in for some all-new candy experiences.

Skittles and Starburst candies have been given sour (and other) makeovers in the past, but adding a spicy kick to them is an entirely new concept. And it seems folks online don’t know quite what to think about it.

Most people on Twitter are seem a little confused by the announcement. But if the taste tests are anything like the initial reactions, you’re either going to love these new Skittles or hate them. This is something you’re going to have to taste before officially weighing in.

You’ll have to wait a few more months before you can get your hands on a bag of these, though. They’ll be rolling out in December 2017.

The Sweet Heat Skittles and Starbursts are just two of many new candies Wrigley is rolling out this year. Juicy Fruit gum is also getting a makeover, so clearly, 2017 is the year for trying new flavor combinations. Juicy Fruit America Pop will be available in this month, with each stick of gum containing cherry, lemon and blue raspberry flavors. The patriotic colors will be available just in time for the Fourth of July, so you may want to pick up a pack to celebrate!
