Here’s How Splenda, Equal And SweetN’ Low Compare To Sugar
Have you ever wondered which artificial sweetener is best for you? There are so many sugar-free options on the market, but the most well known are Equal, Splenda and Sweet’N Low.
As this Business Insider video shows, not all artificial sweeteners are created equal.
They differ greatly when it comes to sweetness:
And there are moderate caloric differences as well:
There are also differences when it comes to their uses in baking. For example, Equal cannot be used in baking recipes. However, Splenda makes an excellent sugar substitute. But, be aware that using an artificial sweetener could change the look and texture of your baked goods. Sugar doesn’t just add sweetness, it also adds moisture.
If you are going to use artificial sweetener, experts recommend that you don’t try to replace more than two cups of real sugar. And, generally speaking, items like cookies and cakes don’t hold up as well to the sugar swap. Instead, things like icing, filling, beverages and frozen fare do better with artificial sweeteners.
However, that doesn’t mean that you cannot bake delicious low-sugar treats. Along with Splenda, you can also turn to natural sugar substitutes like maple syrup, agave and brown rice syrup.
