Cereal based on Stephen King’s ‘It’ is on its way to your breakfast table

Warner Bros. Pictures

Get ready for breakfast to get a whole lot creepier. That’s because Stephen King’s “It” is about to get its very own breakfast cereal.

According to horror fan site Bloody Disgusting, Funko (the makers of those cute pop culture collectibles you see everywhere) is about to release a line of horror movie-themed breakfast cereals. The release was teased in the Netflix documentary “Making Fun: The Story of Funko,” and the cereals are due to be out this month.

So, yes, you could soon be waking up to Pennywise’s smiling face every morning.

Wetting your pants yet? Don’t worry, these frightening cereals won’t be available at your local grocery store, so you don’t have to break into a sweat when you walk down the cereal aisle. Instead, you will have to search for these terrifying new breakfast foods at your local comic book shop or online.

The “It”- themed cereal will not only feature Pennywise on the box, but it’s also expected to come with a figurine of Pennywise inside.

There are a variety of other Funko horror movie-themed cereals in the works, including one of “Nightmare on Elm Street.” And, get this … when you add milk to the Pennywise and Freddy Krueger cereals, they will turn blood red. Eeeek!

Similarly, there will be a Funko “Beetlejuice” cereal, and when you add milk to this one, it will turn green (to mimic slime, of course).

Other fun cereals in the works from the company include Elvira, He-Man and Wonder Woman.

Elvira herself even shared a preview on her Instagram account, showing what some of the cereals will look like:

Now, there is a bit of a catch. These cereals will cost $7.99 a box, which is pretty steep. But these could be considered more of a collector’s item than the Froot Loops you reach for every morning. Funko creator Michael Becker explains that he wanted to create these breakfast cereals as a reminder of the times when breakfast meant Saturday morning cartoons, fun and fantasy.

“It’s just one more of those feel-good Funko items,” Becker told the Coronado Eagle & Journal. “I used to watch cartoons on Saturday mornings while I was eating cereal.”

Keep your eyes peeled for these collectible cereals at places like FYE, comic book stores and online.

In the meantime, check out some of the other fun products available from Funko. They’ve got several collectors’ boxes filled with goodies from your favorite movies.
