This Story Will Make You Want To Quit Your Job And Live In A School Bus
You wouldn’t think that living in a school bus would be the cause of envy in millions of people, but this couple who live in a very cool transformed bus are making a lot of people jealous.
A Facebook video about said school bus has been viewed more than 49 million times. And not only is this couple living in a hip school bus, they are also on an epic adventure through the Western Hemisphere in their stylish home-on-wheels.
The bus transformation began when a German couple, Felix Starck and Selima Taibi, realized their mountain dog could no longer get up the stairs to their Berlin loft. Instead of looking for another apartment, they decided to transform an old school bus and started an adventure dubbed “Expedition Happiness.”
Taibi tells the Huffington Post, “We knew we had to custom build something to fit our style, but didn’t want to lose our freedom.”
The couple, eager to travel the Americas, flew to the U.S., bought a school bus for $9,000 and started renovating. They hadn’t even seen the bus before they made the purchase! All of their hard work was shared on the Expedition Happiness Facebook page and their blog, and the transformation is truly amazing!
The renovations set them back around $60,000 to $70,000, but they were able complete the work in about three months. Just take a look at some of the jaw-dropping results.
In addition to the glamorous makeover, the home is fully equipped with running water, electricity and propane. The kitchen is complete with a stove, sink, refrigerator and freezer.
The couple even built a compost toilet, and a master bedroom with a flat-screen TV!
Once Starck and Taibi had their home on wheels completed, the real adventure was set in motion. They started their expedition driving all the way from Alaska down to Central America. According to a Facebook post on Oct. 12, the couple has already reached Mexico with their dog, Rudi.
So, wouldn’t you like to have this spiffed-up set of wheels? Well now is your chance! According to their Expedition Happiness blog, you can actually win the bus.
Starck and Taibi want to continue their journey and make their way into South America. The only problem is there’s no road between Panama and Colombia (the Darien Gap is an undeveloped 60-mile expanse of swampland and forest between the two countries, and there’s literally no road to take you through it).
The couple decided to hold a raffle for 500 to 1,000 people willing to pay $100 per raffle ticket. The winner will be announced live on Facebook sometime in January 2017. Click here to learn more about how the raffle works.
Starck and Taibi say they love the idea of someone getting the bus for just $100. Watch the transformation of the school bus below.
