Orawan Kaewla-iat has made a habit of feeding the stray dogs near her home in Thailand. While she does it out of the kindness of her heart, one pup apparently thinks she should be rewarded in return for her good deeds.
Kaewla-iat took to Facebook to share her story of how a dog named Tua Plu, who comes by her home every day along with his mother looking for something to eat. But this pooch is not looking looking for a free handout. Tua Plu always shows up with a gift in hand (actually in mouth, as the case may be) in exchange for his daily grub.
“When he’s hungry, he will offer something to get fed,” Orawan wrote on Facebook, as translated by Coconuts Bangkok. “Every day he shows up with an object in his mouth—usually a leaf and sometimes a piece of paper. Before you feed other dogs, you have to feed Tua Plu and his mom.”
Here is the grateful pup offering his gift:
Kaewla-iat’s post has gone viral throughout Thailand and beyond, having been shared over 25,000 times. The post has also led some to inquire about the possibility of adopting Tua Plu.
Here’s Tua Plu enjoying his bowl of rice given to him by Kaewla-iat:
Tua Plu is certainly alone in this endearing behavior. It’s a very common behavior among many breeds of dogs. Elizabeth Legere, owner of Alexandria Pet Care in Virginia, tells Patch that a dog bringing a gift to a human likely stems from their “primal instinct to bring or other comfort offerings to the pack leader.” So if your dog brings you random items just like Tua Plu, consider it a sign of their respect and gratitude (even if it is a dirty sock from the hamper).
We hope that Tua Plu and his mom find their forever home, where we’re sure they’ll lavish their owners with gifts every day.
