Shelter Dogs Are Being Given A Second Chance As Ball Retrievers For Tennis Matches

Youtube

Everyone deserves a second chance in life and this even includes our four-legged furry friends. An organization is training sheltered dogs to become “ball dogs” and retrieve balls during tennis matches.

The dogs were rescued from abandoned areas in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the organization trained the dogs to fetch the tennis balls and bring them to the players.  It was designed as a promotion to raise awareness about the 1,200 stray dogs they currently have sheltered in the city.

“We want to show that abandoned dogs can be adopted and trained,” said Andrea Beckert, a trainer from the Association of Animal Wellbeing told CNN. “After all, it’s not easy to get a dog to only pick up the lost balls, and then to give them up!”

So yes, an old dog can learn a new trick 🙂

Here’s a video of the dogs in action.
