The 1970s horror movie ‘Suspiria’ is getting a remake

IMDb | Amazon studios

The 1977 film “Suspiria” has long been considered one of the scariest horror movies ever made.

Directed by Italian filmmaker Dario Argento, “Suspiria” tells the story of an American ballet student who goes to Germany to study dance, only to discover that her new ballet school has grisly and terrifying secrets.

The movie is considered a cinematic masterpiece among critics, thanks to its fantastic score, incredible writing and shocking death scenes.

But despite this reputation, the film isn’t as widely-known by horror fans who are more well-versed in other scary flicks of that era, like “Friday the 13th” or “Halloween.”

A Terrifying Remake

Now this terrifying yet gorgeous film is getting a remake. Italian filmmaker Luca Guadagnino (director of the Academy Award winner “Call Me By Your Name”) has given “Suspiria” a fresh and modern reboot.

The new film stars “50 Shades of Grey” actress Dakota Johnson as Susie, the American ballerina who is in for the fight of her life.

Critics Claim Film ‘Beyond Extreme And Gross’

The movie will be released on November 2 (sigh, so far away!), but the trailer already has many fans in overdrive.

Horror industry elites who saw an advanced clip of the movie were reportedly freaked out by the short clip, with some even having to look away from the screen.

“People at my table turned away from the screen,” tweeted Steven Weintraub, editor-in-chief of Collider.com. “All I can say is it’s beyond extreme and gross and I need to see more.”

Therapy For The Leading Actress?

Oh, and if that doesn’t sound scary enough, Johnson even said that working on the movie forced her to go into therapy.

She described one of the filming locations and it sounds pretty creepy.

“We were in an abandoned hotel on top of a mountain,” Johnson told “ELLE.”  “It had 30 telephone poles on the roof, so there was electricity pulsating through the building, and everyone was shocking each other.”
