Booze Is Coming Soon To (Some) Taco Bell Locations

We’ve all been there. You’re out on the town, and you’ve had a few cocktails. By the end of the night, you realize the appetizers you nibbled on at the party do not a dinner make, and now you’re starving. You don’t necessarily need a “fourth meal,” but you ask your designated driver to swing by the Taco Bell drive-thru. You need some Nachos BellGrande, stat.

While most of us have indulged in fast food after a night out, Taco Bell is now upping the ante and inviting you to keep the party going (or start there) by serving alcoholic beverages at select locations.

That’s right! You can pregame a girls’ night out with some tacos and beer or end the evening on a high note with a Crunchy Taco Supreme, washed down by a glass of wine. Actually, who needs additional destinations when you have Mexican food and cocktails all in one place? You can make a night of it at Taco Bell.

It’s all part of their “urban in-line” locations, a concept that makes Taco Bell less of a fast food joint and more of a “cantina-style” destination, according to Food & Wine.

Taco Bell plans to open 300 to 350 of such locations by 2022, which will feature local artwork, open kitchens and digital menu boards. They are rolling out their concept in major cities such as Detroit, Nashville and New York City.

The new restaurants will serve beer and wine as well as Twisted Freezes, frozen drinks spiked with tequila, rum or vodka.

One thing you won’t find at these new, hip Taco Bells? Drive-thrus. Yep, the company is eschewing the staple that’s practically synonymous with fast food in favor of stores where customers are encouraged to kick back, have a drink and stay awhile.

While you might think a Taco Bell without a drive-thru is downright blasphemous, their concept actually makes sense when you think about the fact that they’re serving booze and focusing on more walk-able, urban areas. So what are you waiting for? Grab some friends and schedule a #TacoTuesday night out!
