Target Is Giving Shopping Carts A Mario Kart Makeover At Certain Locations

Shopping at Target is going to get a little more exciting! More than 650 stores are set to roll out “Mario Karts.” That’s right! The red and gray plastic shopping carts we’ve become familiar with are getting a Mario-themed makeover.

The retail giant made the announcement last week. In honor of Mario Kart 8‘s release for Nintendo Switch, they’ve teamed up with Nintendo to do a little cross-promoting. This means participating stores are ready to go into full game-on mode. Sounds fun, right?

So how will you know if you’re store is one of the select Target’s participating?

Where to Find Target Mario Karts

A clue would be to look at the giant red stone balls outside of the store. Target will transform some of them into the heads of Mario and Luigi. If you find them, then be prepared to start your shopping trip with a Mario Kart.

Ah, but it’s not as easy as it sounds. It looks like Target wants to make finding one of these stores a bit of a game, too. A Target spokesperson told Consumerist that they’re not planning to release a list of the stores selected for the thrilling promotion. So it’s going to be a matter of hopping in your car and driving around to find the right store (or hopping on Twitter and following the #MarioKart hashtag).

The fun doesn’t end there. Upon entering the store, you’ll cross an actual starting line. Lights will flash and you won’t miss hearing Mario’s catchy and familiar theme song.

“Experience counts — it’s what keeps guests coming in and coming back to our stores,” says Scott Nygaard, senior vice president, Merchandising, Target. “So we’re delivering the fun like only Target can, giving generations of Mario fans a shopping trip they won’t soon forget.”

Target explained that the promotion is only set to last for several weeks.  So if you want in on the game, head to one of the select Target stores participating before it’s game over.
