Taylor Swift debuted a new recording of one of her classic hits


Swifties, rejoice! Taylor Swift has just released her first-ever re-recording of one of her classic hits. The re-recording of “Love Song,” Swift’s popular 2008 track, is being used in a new commercial for Match.com.

Swift shared the big news with fans on her social media pages, saying that she wanted to do the song for the commercial after her pal Ryan Reynolds reached out and asked her to participate. Reynolds is the director and creative mind behind the Match ad, so the commercial is, of course, hilarious!

Swift tweeted about the project on Dec. 2, calling the commercial by Reynolds “LOLsome” — presumably meaning that it’s both funny and awesome.

Reynolds also posted the new Match ad to his social media pages, with the hashtag #2020LoveStory.

Swift announced her plans to re-record her first albums back in 2019. She made the decision after her manager, Scooter Braun, acquired her musical catalog (up to 2017’s “Reputation”) — and then sold them all, meaning Swift can no longer profit off her own work.

Swift wrote a deeply vulnerable post on her Tumblr page about what Braun’s decision would mean for her, highlighting how the infamous manager tormented her for years.

“For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work,” Swift wrote on Tumblr. “Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in.”

“I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future,” she continued. “I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.”


Swift shares that she never imagined that her work would end up in Braun’s hands, a man who constantly brought her to tears. By re-recording her old songs, Swift will regain some of her power and creative agency.

“The reason I’m re-recording my music next year is because I do want my music to live on. I do want it to be in movies, I do want it to be in commercials,” Swift told Vanity Fair. “But I only want that if I own it. It’s going to be fun because it’ll feel like regaining a freedom and taking back what’s mine.”

Good for you, Taylor! We are looking forward to hearing more of the re-recordings. If they’re half as good as her latest album, “folklore,” we’re in for a massive treat!
