9 thoughts every teacher has had during summer break

School is out for summer, and it’s not just the students who are celebrating. Hard-working teachers share some of those same excited sentiments. We know this because we confiscated some of the hilarious memes they’ve been passing around the internet.

Here are nine things that are going through teachers’ minds this summer.

1. So When Does The Actual “Break” Start?

In all seriousness, most teachers are working anywhere from 12- to 16-hour days during the school year. In addition to logging the standard eight-hour school day, many are spending extra hours planning, grading, attending meetings and coming in early for students who need extra help. There’s an infographic online that gives a glimpse at what a teacher’s schedule actually looks like, including their busy summers. That summer “off” is anything but.

2. Crank Up Alice Cooper

Ahh, the sweet sounds of “School’s Out.” One teacher in Indiana showed how Alexa can help teachers get into the mood for summer. Might we suggest Guns N’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle” be played come August or September?

3. Celebrate The Little Things

Among life’s little pleasures? Going to the bathroom whenever you please.

4. Seriously, Peeing When You Want Is A Big Deal

No need to precisely time those bathroom breaks with passing periods or, worse, waiting all of the way until the end of the day for a free moment.

5. Passing The Baton Is Glorious

Parents, they’re all yours for a few months.

6. A Little Space Goes A Long Way

Is there a “Do Not Disturb” sign that can be worn in public?

7. Seriously, Don’t Email Me

Teachers love their students — but, seriously, give them this valuable time to recharge before fall.

8. Let’s Not Talk About School, OK?

Shhh … no talking … about school. The only math that should be discussed is how many ounces are in a pint of beer or a glass of wine.

9. Is It Too Early To Shop For School Supplies?

All jokes aside, teachers deserve superhero capes — or at least a new pair of Jordans. By July, many of them are already shopping for school supplies and classroom necessities for the upcoming school year. Did you know that, on average, teachers spend $500 of their own money every year on school supplies, according to a survey by Scholastic.

Next time you feel like complaining about your kid’s teachers, just remember they do a lot for very little in return!
