Teen Asks Emma Stone To Prom With Epic “La La Land” Video

When it comes to “promposals,” epic is an understatement for the newest one to grace the internet.

Phoenix, Arizona, high school junior Jacob Staudenmaier recreated the opening scene of the film “La La Land” to ask one of the movie’s stars, Emma Stone, to prom. With the help of a lot of friends, he used his passion for filmmaking to create the musical invitation.

“I saw ‘La La Land’ and loved it a lot,” Staudenmaier told ABC News. “It was one of my favorite films and I’ve always liked Emma Stone as an actor and I guess that spawned the idea of maybe asking her to the prom.”

For the promposal, Staudenmaier rewrote the words to the song “Another Day of Sun,” changing the lyrics in an attempt to convince Stone that she should be his prom date. Here’s a snippet of what the clever teen came up with:

“Jacob Staudenmaier is my name/ Emma Stone if you came/ I think I’d lose it, Go insane/ We’ll have to see…I hope you’ll want to come on down/ I’ll see your face and think of how/ I got so lucky.”

Staudenmaier says his inspiration for the video was another student from his school, Arcadia High School, who asked Miley Cyrus to prom a few years ago. While Cyrus didn’t attend the prom, that student was invited on stage with her at a concert, so Staudenmaier’s idea is totally worth a shot!

Staudenmaier admits he’s not the greatest vocalist, singing “I know my voice ain’t great, but please be my prom date.” Hey, it’s those clever lyrics that really count!

“I’m not usually someone to sing…if people see it and don’t like my voice so be it, because it was all just about having fun and it didn’t have to be perfect,” he said.

Stone is from nearby Scottsdale, Arizona, so who knows—maybe she’d love a visit home and a quick trip to the prom, which is scheduled for April 29. And hey, with a pre-prom trip to Olive Garden promised in the song, who could refuse that offer?
