A Teen Is Going Viral For Tweeting From Her Family’s Smart Refrigerator After Her Mom Took Away Her Phone
Now this is a sign of the times!
When a 15-year-old Kentucky girl’s iPhone, Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS were confiscated by her mom, the Ariana Grande fan found a very clever work-around in order to send a tweet in the absence of her devices. They say where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Dorothy (aka @thankunext327) certainly proved that to be true when she tweeted via her family’s LG smart refrigerator:
I do not know if this is going to tweet I am talking to my fridge what the heck my Mom confiscated all of my electronics again.

“She took all my tech so I’d pay more attention to my surroundings,” Dorothy told The Guardian of why her mom took her devices. “I felt mortified! I was worried because I’ve been bored all summer and Twitter passes the time for me.”
People thought her hack was pretty genius, and her tweet has been retweeted more than 17,000 times. People even started tweeting in support of Dorothy with the hashtag #FreeDorothy.
Even LG tweeted out the hashtag, showing their approval of the enterprising teen’s use of their kitchen technology:

“My mom uses it to Google recipes for baking so I just Googled Twitter,” Dorothy told New York Magazine of how she came up with the idea to utilize her family’s smart refrigerator to tweet.
On Aug. 13, Dorothy once again took to Twitter to thank everyone for their support throughout her quest to gain access to the internet:
I don't know how I got this much support thank you so much to my supporters and @twitter this is crazy I would be lost without you and given up. I'm trying to get my things back fast so I can thank you properly!

Here’s hoping that Dorothy gets her devices back soon! In the meantime, it seems like the refrigerator has saved the day!
