The coolest kitchen gadget of 2018 has just arrived! Made by Heatworks, the Tetra is an Internet-connected countertop dishwasher that is a godsend to anyone who has been washing all their dishes by hand.

Heatworks unveiled the Tetra at the January 2018 CES convention, an annual trade show organized by the Consumer Technology Association. It quickly made waves as people gathered in awe to check out all the Tetra’s amazing capabilities.

Here’s how it works. First, plug the Tetra into a nearby outlet. Then fill up the Tetra with half a gallon of water and insert your dirty dishes. Whether you want to clean two full place settings or 10 plates or 12 pint glasses is up to you! You can turn on the cleaning cycle directly, or do it remotely from an app. The Tetra can finish a cleaning cycle in just 10 minutes. Wow!

Heatworks’ Tetra uses their patented Ohmic Array Technology, which works via graphite electrodes and electronic controls rather than traditional metal heating parts. This means that it will not rust over time, and that it creates more precise temperature control.

In fact, you can even use Tetra to sanitize baby bottles or cook seafood! That’s right, it can be like a mini sous vide on your countertop, so you can perfectly cook salmon or lobster without even turning on your oven.

The Tetra is designed to be small on purpose — not only because it’s meant to take up less valuable real estate in small kitchens, but because it’s eco-friendly. Jerry Callahan, CEO and founder of Heatworks, explained in a press release:

“Our research indicates that although the average household is comprised of 2.58 people, the modern dishwasher holds place settings for 13 or more. This makes people believe that they either need to hand wash their few dirty dishes — which wastes 10 times more water than using a dishwasher — or wait for a fill load to run a cycle. With Tetra, we hope to change people’s mindset.”

He suggested that if a two-person household switch from hand washing dishes to a dishwasher like the Tetra, they could save 1,500 gallons of water per year.

Even if you don’t have a small kitchen, that makes it a pretty amazing appliance in my book! I can’t count how many times we have friends over for dinner or drinks and suddenly realized we didn’t have enough clean wine glasses or enough clean silverware. With the Tetra, you can have clean dishes in the time it takes you to finish plating the appetizers. (Unintended bonus: It will keep your guests of all ages entertained as they watch the space-age dishwasher work through the transparent glass!)

The Tetra will be available for purchase in Dec. 2018, and it will cost $299. Better be good this year so Santa will bring you one!
