When you think of Rachel Brosnahan, your mind probably goes to her character, Midge Maisel, the snappy, smart stand-up comedian from Prime Video’s “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” You likely also think of the character’s 1950s style. While Brosnahan isn’t actually Mrs. Maisel, her Emmy Awards makeup look did share something with said character: a black eyeliner.

While Brosnahan’s Midge is almost always seen wearing a thin strip of black eyeliner, the actress and her makeup artist Lisa Aharon went in a more dramatic direction for the glamorous event, elongating the actress’s eyes with a winged liner.

And the liner is a cult classic: The Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black.

Aharon used the liner along Brosnahan’s lash line, winging it out subtly in the corners, but it wasn’t the only Stila product she used. Stila’s Simmer & Glow Liquid Eye Shadow in Cloud also made an appearance giving a mauve-toned shimmer to this smoky look and changing things up from the traditional neutral tones you’d commonly find in a smoky eye. Plus, it helped the makeup meld perfectly with the actress’s gorgeous eggplant-hued corseted gown from Versace.

But even if you don’t plan to head out to a glamorous red carpet, Brosnahan’s liquid liner is still a makeup drawer staple. The cult classic is beloved by industry insiders for its staying power and its ease of application. And it’s not just beauty pros who think so.

The liner won an Allure’s Reader’s Choice Award in 2020, and myriad reviewers on Sephora’s site also attest to its ability to stay put and not smudge. One Sephora commenter even claimed that she “fell asleep with my makeup && my liner didn’t budge at all.”

Another reviewer, who gave it five stars, wrote, “I love the precision of this product! It made placement incredibly easy and I do not have the steadiest of hands. It did not smudge at all until I used makeup remover to get it off. I’m incredibly pleased with this and will be repurchasing.”

Whether you want to channel Midge Maisel herself or are looking to go for a more glam look like Brosnahan’s Emmy’s red carpet makeup, the Stila Stay All Liquid Eyeliner is the way to go.
