The final film in the “How to Train Your Dragon” trilogy is set to premiere on March 1, 2019, and now the trailer for the highly-anticipated movie is here.
The franchise is based on Cressida Cowell’s book series by the same name, and several of the same people involved with the first two movies are back for the latest installment, including composer John Powell and producer Bonnie Arnold. All three films have been written and directed by Dean DeBlois.
“The story is another rite of passage,” DeBlois told The Hollywood Reporter of the plot of the final film. “Hiccup is being tested as a rookie chief. He needs to make wise decisions.”

In an interview with Collider, DeBlois talked about the experience of making the third film, and what it’s like to come to the end of the journey in this series.
“There’s gonna be a moment where it’s all wrapping up and we’re sending it out into the world, and it certainly will be emotional ’cause this is 10 years of my life and for most of the people that have worked on the films,” he told the entertainment site.
The first movie, which premiered in 2010, introduces audiences to Hiccup, a Viking teenager who lives in a village that is often attacked by dragons. He befriends a dragon he names Toothless and eventually teaches his neighbors how to work with the dragons. In the 2014 sequel, “How to Train Your Dragon 2,” Hiccup and Toothless find themselves in a battle to protect their village from a villain named Drago. Although the third film will explore a love story between Toothless and fellow dragon Light Fury, Deblois is quick to caution that there’s a lot more to the movie than meets the eye from the trailer alone.
