The Queen and Meghan Markle are going on their first public engagement together—without Prince Harry
On June 14, Meghan Markle will join Queen Elizabeth II on her first royal engagement without Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex and Her Majesty will officially open the Mersey Gateway bridge in Cheshire, open the Storyhouse theater in Chester and attend a lunch at the Chester Town Hall.
Markle previously attended the Commonwealth Day Service with Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the royal family, and she also was a guest at the Queen’s Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace as well the holiday getaway at her Sardingham estate. But this is her first time sans Harry.
But Markle seems to have already established a good relationship with her new husband’s grandmother, and the Queen actually has a photo of the newlyweds in her home. The monarch also officially gave her approval of their wedding in March.
When the couple announced their engagement, Markle spoke about what it was like meeting the monarch in their interview with BBC.
“It’s incredible, I think, you know a) to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother, all of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her,” she told the network. “And we’ve had a really — she’s — she’s an incredible woman.”
We will next get a glimpse of the royals on June 9, when Markle and Prince Harry are expected to appear on the balcony of Buckingham Palace when the family gathers to celebrate the Queen’s birthday at the annual Trooping the Colour Parade. We can’t wait to see everyone and, of course, what they’ll be wearing! The event, after all, is well-known for its fashionable outfits.
We all wish Markle well on this outing with her grandmother-in-law!
