It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than 50 years since Julie Andrews stole audiences’ hearts in the classic movie “The Sound of Music.”

If you’re a fan of the film and never had the chance to see it on the big screen, then you’ll want to get out your calendars for some big news: “The Sound of Music” will return to theaters around the country for two days only this fall.

The film will be shown Sept. 9 and Sept. 12 for just two showings each day, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. To find the closest showing to your hometown, simply visit the Fathom Events website, enter your zip code and voila! You’ll have a list of the theaters, available times and links to purchase tickets online.

The limited-engagement run is part of the TMC Big Screen Classics Series. Cable network TMC has teamed up with Fathom Events to bring an entire collection of some of the most beloved movies of all time back to theaters.

“The Sound of Music is the definition of a ‘feel-good’ movie, a film that captures the hearts of audiences of all ages in the most special way,” Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations Tom Lucas told Forbes magazine. “It’s one of our most frequently requested best-performing classic titles, truly one of movie lovers’ favorite things.”

The movie was an adaptation of the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway musical. The film starred Andrews as Maria, the nun-turned-governess for the seven children of widower Captain Von Trapp (played by Christopher Plummer).

It features very memorable songs including “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen,” and “Climb Every Mountain,” not to mention the title song.

“The Sound of Music” was both a commercial and critical success. It was the first movie to gross $100 million at the box office.

The movie won five Oscars, including one for Best Picture. Will you be going to see the movie on the big screen?

If you’re a big fan of Andrews, you’ll be happy to know that “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” is coming to Netflix on Aug. 1, so there is not much longer to wait.

Be sure to schedule a girls’ night in so you and all of your lady friends and their daughters can pile up to watch as Anne Hathaway (aka Mia) turns 21 and finds out she can succeed her grandmother as the queen of Genovia if she gets married within 30 days!

Returning in this sequel film is the lovely Andrews and the funny Hector Elizondo, and Chris Pine also makes his debut as the love interest. Oooh!

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement” was released in 2004, so there’s a good chance you’ve already seen this film. The original “Princess Diaries” is also available to stream on Netflix now, so if you need to see the first movie before the sequel drops, let the movie-watching begin!
