In The Hobbit, J.R.R. Tolkien created a magical, iconic home for hobbits. He described it as follows:
“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that meant comfort.”
Apparently, the people at Green Mountain Homes were quite the fans of the book. They’ve created pre-fabricated homes that are designed to go under a layer of soil and grass (just like a hobbit house). If you have a desire to get a little closer to Middle-earth, then these houses may be perfect for you.
The homes are designed to be easily installed. In fact, Green Mountain Homes says that three people can install the entire home in less than a week.
Because the houses are modular, you can easily add more rooms as you require additional space. Before you know it, you can have yourself an entire hobbit estate all to yourself.

And surprisingly, the inside feels quite cozy and looks pretty cool. They definitely have that “comfort” level that Tolkien originally described. Here are a few interior shots.
