Universal Studios in Hollywood, California is conjuring up some new magic at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter this spring. Potterheads should be prepared to face the darker side of magical powers in this new nighttime spectacular. The new experience, “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle,” debuts at the California theme park in April and promises an incredible light show and immersive multimedia event for fans of the Harry Potter series.

“Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle” debuts at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 13, and will run select nights through April 28. The show returns for a limited engagement at the theme park from May 25-27. For those who can’t attend the shows on the West Coast, Universal Studios Orlando plans to launch the show sometime “later this year.”

So, what can we muggles and wanna-be wizards expect from “Dark Arts at Hogwarts Castle”?

If you’re a fan of Voldemort and his Death Eaters, then this show is right up your Knockturn Alley! Universal vividly describes the show in its public announcement:

“As darkness falls at Hogwarts castle, Dementors, Death Eaters and other unspeakable creatures rise to cloak the stone walls in sinister images and fiendish magic,” according to the official release. “Chaos erupts as the image of Lord Voldemort joins the fray, summoning his cruel legions to swarm the castle. Experience the fire-engulfed army of Inferi and the soul-draining breath of Dementors as you stare in awe at the castle’s takeover.

The show is even complete with a musical score composed by John Williams, who wrote “Hedwig’s Theme,” the classic theme heard in the Harry Potter films!

How will Hogwarts Castle be saved? Apparently, someone casts a Patronus charm to dispel the dark spirits and restore light to the world to wrap up the light and music show. Whether it will be a famous Potter character or a lucky park guest, we don’t know. But we can’t wait to find out!

Admission to this show is included with a theme park admission ticket. So, mark your calendars, muggles and make your way to Universal to catch the magic!
