There’s An Abundance Of Wild Blueberries This Season — So Look Out For Some Cheap Produce

Blueberry-lovers, we’ve got some good news for you! Despite a drought, Maine’s wild blueberry crop was bigger than expected this year, meaning there will be a heavy supply of the fruit this fall, according to the Associated Press.

The state is the largest wild blueberry-producing state in the country, and it will most likely hit its average production rate of about 93 million pounds of blueberries in a year.

Blueberry prices are already currently low, and this bumper crop is expected to cause prices to drop even lower. The industry has been competing with blueberries coming out of Canada, where there is also an oversupply, with an even cheaper cost. This isn’t great news for growers, but it’s definitely good for consumers.

Although wild blueberries are not as popular as their fatter cultivated counterparts, they make up a sixth of the country’s blueberry crop and are usually available in the frozen section of the grocery store. And hey, if you haven’t tried them yet, now might be the time to finally make that wild blueberry pie. It won’t cost you very much!
