There’s Going To Be An Airbnb On The Great Wall Of China—And You Can Enter A Contest To Stay There

Here's how to enter.

There are some truly spectacular Airbnb options popping up all over the world. You can stay in tree houses, Lego houses and there’s even lodging under the sea or on a private island. However, this latest offering from Airbnb might be even more amazing.

This week, Airbnb partnered with the Beijing Tourism Development Committee to launch a competition for an overnight stay on the Great Wall of China. This custom home isn’t boasting that it’s within walking distance of one of the seven wonders of the world, or that it has a view of it — rather, it’s right on top of it.

The once-in-a-lifetime opportunity includes more than overnight accommodations. The competition’s partners say the experience will promote sustainable tourism in China, highlight preservation efforts to maintain the wall and share traditional Chinese culture.

It does look pretty amazing:

The Experience Of Staying On The Great Wall

The open-air custom home is located in a tower on the wall with unobstructed views. It features a four-poster bed, rug and plenty of candles for lighting.

Before settling in for the night, guests will eat their way through a multi-course meal representing different aspects of Chinese culture.

A classical Chinese music experience will add to the atmosphere.

The next morning, guests will embark on a sunrise hike through the countryside guided by the site’s official historians.

“It’s been an honor to work with historians and preservationists groups in Beijing to bring this once-in-a-lifetime experience to the world,” says Nathan Blecharczyk, co-founder and chairman of Airbnb China. “We are so proud to partner in this truly collective effort to highlight such an incredible landmark that now serves to unify people rather than divide them.”

How To Enter The Contest

For your chance to win, answer the question: “why it is more important now than ever to break down barriers between cultures and how you want to build new connections” at the Great Wall listing page. Don’t delay, because the contest ends Aug. 11 at 11:59 p.m. Beijing time, or GMT+8.

A panel of seven judges will select the best responses based on merit, including creativity and originality of submission. The first week of September, the four winners and their guests will be flown in from anywhere in the world for the ultimate sleepover.
