These ceramic Christmas trees are making a comeback

I still remember my grandma’s ceramic Christmas tree. Hers was white with white lights, which made for a nice decorative touch by day and a beautiful glow by night. Did your relatives have something similar? And does it make you feel all warm and fuzzy to think about them?

If so, I bring good news — these festive and much-loved ceramic trees are making a comeback. Retailers such as Target, Amazon and Kohl’s all sell trees just like the ones your mom or grandma used to have. We think it’s safe to say they’re gaining in popularity.

According to Dark Horse Arts and Gifts, ceramic Christmas trees first became popular in the ’60s and ’70s, which explains why they were often found on our grandparents’ mantlepieces as we were growing up. Hey — maybe you even owned one yourself!

Well, it’s time to dig that thing out again and make sure it’s on display. And if you don’t have one hiding away in the attic somewhere, you’ll be able to easily get your hands on one through a number of retailers.

Here are just a few of the ceramic Christmas trees you can find online now.

Amazon

As you might expect, there’s no shortage of these vintage-inspired ceramic trees in a variety of colors on Amazon. The ceramic tree pictured here has the classic look and is available in green or white. This one features a built-in power cord and a simple on-off switch, so lighting it up each night will be hassle-free. At 15 inches tall, these festive decorations are the perfect size for placing on any countertop or desk, and they’re available for $34.99 apiece on Amazon.

Target

You could shop Target for ceramic trees and find a different festive style for every room in the house. There are the classic star-topped, dark green trees with colorful lights, plus several variations of the white trees with rainbow-hued lights.

Target also has a sweet, candy-pink variation on the classic holiday figurine, available in a 14-inch size for $30 and this cute 7-inch size for $15 — perfect for a kids’ room, bathroom or any other dainty little Christmas display.

Kohl’s

Like Target, Kohl’s offers a wide array of ceramic Christmas trees, so you can add a little vintage flair to every room. Along with the typical green and white trees, there is also this ceramic tree by Mr. Christmas available in a country blue hue or teal (pictured here). These trees stand just over 17 inches tall and cost $79.99.

The Vermont Country Store

You can find some unique versions of the ceramic Christmas tree on the Vermont Country Store’s website, including these frosty, snow-tipped trees that stand 13 inches tall and cost $39.95. The retailer also offers an interesting selection of bulbs that you can swap into your ceramic tree to refresh its look. Choose from bulbs shaped like birds, holly leaves or tiny poinsettias.

Plow & Hearth

The tallest ceramic tree we could find is this 20-inch indoor/outdoor lighted Christmas tree from Plow & Hearth. Available in the classic forest green or white with multicolored lights, these trees are battery-operated, so they can be set out anywhere — the mantle, a corner shelf or even the front porch — and you won’t even have to hide a cord.

At $99.95, these are not as budget-friendly as the ones from other retailers, but they do have the bright, old-fashioned look of the ceramic trees of yore, and they offer cordless convenience.

Etsy

If you’re looking for an actual vintage piece, Etsy is a great place to search. You can find pieces such as this 18-inch tree for $79.99.
