These women had to be rescued after they got stuck on a unicorn pool float

When summer rolls around, it comes as no surprise that people like to pull out all of their warm weather tricks, including fancy pool floats like this giant unicorn one that’s perfect for group outings. But in the midst of all the excitement they, apparently, also need a bit of guidance on how to steer them.

In August 2018, a group of intrepid women decided to take their giant unicorn float out on Minnesota’s Fish Lake, which is about an hour north of Minneapolis. What I’m sure the women envisioned was a day full of cute Instagram photos and maybe some adult beverages. They probably pictured themselves perched gracefully aboard their unicorn vessel, lounging in the sun. You know, an idyllic summer scene, like this one:

Instead, their not-so-picture-perfect day ended with them getting stuck in some water vegetation just a few yards from the dock.

Thankfully for these ladies, a Chisago County Sheriff’s Office deputy just happened to be passing by and noticed the giant, floating, rainbow catastrophe taking place on the lake. And thus, a rare unicorn wrangling was caught on video as the deputy lassoed the would-be unicorn riders and towed them to safety.

“Driving by a local lake we observed a bunch of women in a (rainbow and unicorn emojis) stuck in the weeds…Yes, a rainbow unicorn… With a handful of laughs and some mad rescue roping skills, they were pulled back to the dock! #wherestheglitter,” the department wrote in the post.

The women appeared to take their rescue in stride. In the video, they laugh at their predicament, all the way to a happy ending for everyone. Well, except maybe for the unicorn, who will likely be spending the rest of the summer in storage.

The video has been retweeted more than 3,100 times and been viewed more than 470,000 times since being posted.

Apparently, this group of ladies isn’t the first to run into trouble on a unicorn float. Twitter user Mandy Winbun said the rescue video gave her flashbacks of her own mishap:

Twitter user Lori Nelson shared a photo of her oversized flamingo float, and wrote that she hoped the rescue team would be available if her crew got into a similar predicament:

Some people, like Twitter user @FakeMiddletone, even inquired if they could maybe rope themselves the deputy, though the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office shot that down.

Ouch. Well, at least that might prevent any possible copycats from getting stranded just so they can be rescued.
