10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Priyanka Chopra
There's much more to this multi-talented star than meets the eye.
It’s no surprise Priyanka Chopra’s name is popping up in many headlines lately. Not only is the Indian beauty newly engaged to Nick Jonas, she is multi-talented and an award-winning entertainer in her own right. This summer, Maxim India named her the hottest woman on the planet for the fifth year in a row, but there’s much more to her than meets the eye.
Here are 10 facts to help you get to know Chopra a little better.
1. She Has Royal Friends
Meghan Markle is one of her close friends and Chopra even attended her wedding to Prince Harry. The two became fast friends after meeting at the annual Elle Women in Television dinner in 2016. At the time, Chopra was starring in ABC’s “Quantico” and Markle in USA Network’s “Suits.”
2. She Was Given A High Honor In India
India’s president gave her the Padma Shri in 2017. This civilian honor is similar to a knighthood in the U.K. She’s one of India’s most popular celebrities.
3. She Was Crowned Miss World At Age 18
She was so surprised by winning the title she would reportedly sleep with her crown. Her Miss World title also helped her get her start in Bollywood and kickstarted her modeling career. However, after her reign, she had to return the crown.
4. Growing Up, Her Family Moved Often
Chopra’s parents were physicians in the Indian army and her family moved frequently. A few of her previous home bases included several cities across India, as well as Iowa, Massachusetts and New York in the U.S. She has said she was bullied over being Indian during her time in American schools.
5. She Loves Burgers, Fries and Tabasco
It’s refreshing that, despite being a world-renowned beauty, Chopra is not shy about her love of food. She’s tweeted about khichdi with achaar, which is an Indian dish made with rice and lentils and pickles. She also mentioned in an interview that cheeseburgers are one of the greatest things about America — and that she carries a bottle of Tabasco sauce in her purse!
6. She Has Some Cute Nicknames
7. She Has An “Army of Brothers”
On Twitter, she said she has an “army of brothers,” even though she only has one biological sibling, younger brother Siddharth Chopra.
I've got an army of brothers, and this one (@Iamsidchopra) happens to be the leader of the pack (by default) :p #HappyRakshaBandhan! It's one of my favorite festivals where the sister ties a sacred thread around the brother's wrist for protection… https://t.co/327Tx0O7Lq pic.twitter.com/2WULvEjAFx

8. She’s Released A Few Singles
Like her famous fiance, Chopra has doubled as a singer and actor. She has covered Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” She also collaborated with Will.i.am on “In My City” and with Pitbull on “Exotic”.
9. She Runs A Production Company With Her Mom
Chopra and her mother, Dr. Madhu Chopra, launched Purple Pebble Pictures. The production company’s goal is great storytelling and promoting up-and-coming talent. As the company’s website says, “The possibilities are endless; the potential, limitless.”
10. She’s Writing A Memoir
Titled “Unfinished,” her book will be published next year by Random House. Chopra hopes to inspire others with her story. We’ll have to wait and see what the star will share in the pages but she has promised it will be “rebellious and bold.”
The feeling of checking something off your “bucket list” gives you an indescribable sense of accomplishment…and that’s where I am in this moment. I’ve always wanted to write a book, but the timing never felt right. With each opportunity that presented itself, my first instinct was always to wait…because I wasn’t (and I’m still not) finished. I wanted to do more, live more, and achieve more, before putting pen to paper and exposing things I’ve always kept private to the world. But looking back on my life as a public person, I’m super proud of what I’ve done and where my life is right now. I’ve realized you don’t have to be finished to tell your story, and that sometimes life’s greatest lessons are taught along the ride…when you’re still figuring things out…when you’re #unfinished.
