This Bare Bones ‘Flintstones’ Theme Park Will Take You Way Back

You remember Fred and Wilma Flintstone, along with their neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble, right? (Of course you do! How could anyone forget those iconic animated characters?)

“The Flintstones” is a vintage cartoon about life in the Stone Age, and it was originally on the air from 1960 to 1966. While new episodes haven’t aired for decades, life in Bedrock goes on in a little park located in Williams, Arizona.

Go Back To The Stone Age

If you drive to Bedrock City, it may look closed. The grounds and buildings look practically empty. And it’s true: Not many people stop by. But rest assured, this roadside curiosity keeps the animated Stone Age alive and well.

Bedrock City opened in 1972 and continues today as a 364-day-a-year campground and RV park. (The park closes on Christmas Day.) Back in the day, live Flintstones characters roamed the park to recreate life from the classic cartoon.

Over the years, however, the park’s isolated location took its toll. With fewer visitors, the park let go of most of its employees. Now, just the buildings and a few attractions remain from the park’s glory days.

A “Flintstones” Ghost Town

Everything in Bedrock City looks exactly like what you might have seen on the classic “Flintstones” cartoons. Visitors can walk through brightly colored buildings that look like they are carved out of stone. You can even walk through Fred and Wilma Flintstone’s home:

Or maybe you feel like taking a spin in a classic car. Check out this “Fred-mobile” tram that takes guests around the park:

You can also explore a beauty parlor, general store, jail and police station at Bedrock City, according to Roadside America. Dinosaur lovers, especially, will enjoy riding the brontosaurus slide.

Just climb up and slide down the tail, just like Fred did after work each day!

If you just can’t get enough of “The Flintstones,” you’ll also want to check out this house in Malibu, California. It was previously owned by Dick Clark and it looks just like Fred and Wilma’s house!

The house sits on a bluff near the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreational Area, and the park conservancy did not want a house built on the property. So, Clark reportedly decided to build his house out of stone, reasoning that if the house looked like a rock formation that the conservancy couldn’t take issue with it.
