This Hotel With Beer Taps In Every Room Is Officially Open

The craft beer movement has grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade. Hot on its heels are hops-loving travelers venturing around the country and around the world to see, touch, and most importantly, taste delicious new fermented experiments.

One noteworthy newcomer to beer travel is DogHouse Hotel & Brewery, the world’s first crowdfunded beer-themed hotel. Dreamed up by the Scottish craft brewery BrewDog, the DogHouse Hotel is the ultimate in accommodation for craft beer aficionados. It has a prime location next to BrewDog’s brand-new 100,000-square-foot brewery in Columbus, Ohio.

Room With A Brew

The grand opening is Monday, Aug. 27, and naturally, beer plays a starring role throughout the new property. Guests in one of the 32 rooms onsite can wake up and gaze out at the property’s state-of-the-art brewing facility before heading downstairs to enjoy a beer-paired breakfast.

The standout amenity has to be the in-room BrewDog taps. So anytime day or night, guests can get a fresh taste of a draft beer of their choice. Guests have the option of purchasing a growler in order to activate the tap for the duration of their stay.

Even if the in-room tap isn’t activated, beer is always within reach. Every room comes standard with a stocked refrigerator curated by BrewDog’s co-founders.

The bathrooms even have a refrigerator built in the wall along with a luxurious rainfall showerhead. Though it spews water instead of beer (what a disappointment!), the soap is infused with beer. Toiletries include locally made craft beer soaps. How cool is that?

Some of the rooms are dog-friendly, so four-legged friends can stay and play at The DogHouse too. The eight suites feature custom artwork that shares the brewery’s history and founders’ passion.

Additionally, guests can read up on the latest in craft brewing with a collection of books all about it or soak it in with a beer-themed treatment at the spa. There’s also a brand new 6,000-square-foot interactive beer museum ready to be explored and ping pong tables on the patio begging for solo cups of beer.

Not surprisingly, the boutique property is sold out for Labor Day weekend and many weekends following. Rates range from $162 a night for king rooms to $284 for the Brewmaster Suite, which has prime views of the brewing operation.

Early investors in the property’s Indiegogo campaign scored free nights and other beer-related perks.

Hoppy History

When James Watt and Martin Dickie founded BrewDog in 2007, their mission was to make people as passionate about craft beer as they were. They started small, brewing “tiny batches” and filling bottles by hand. Now, 10 years and one beer hotel later, their passion is contagious. The excitement surrounding their hotel opening proves they’ve accomplished their original mission.

They are far from tapped out of ideas. There are two more DogHouse beer-themed hotels in the works and more projects brewing.

Disneyland may be the happiest place on earth, but the DogHouse Hotel & Brewery is set to be the “hoppiest.” And that might be just as good.
