This house over a pond has a fishing hole inside, and it could be yours
In 2015, Paul Phillips was all over the local news in Oklahoma because he’d built a home over a pond, allowing him to fish from his living room. Now, the house in Skiatook, Oklahoma, could be yours — it’s been on the market since March 2019.
The cabin-style house sits mostly over water and has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It’s listed for $229,000 on Zillow.
According to the listing, Phillips’ home has a trap door in the living room floor for fishing. If you look closely, you can see it here:
It also has a floor plan that’s open to the kitchen:
Phillips also put his television right by the trap door. Genius!
The 1,750-square-foot house boasts lots of wood floors with a master bedroom and bath on the first floor.
The other two bedrooms, and one bathroom, are upstairs.
The home also has a wrap-around deck:
It appears that there’s a second place to fish from the property. An additional structure on the side of the house is featured in the MLS/Zillow sale listing. It shows an open room with cabinetry and a refrigerator that has a small dock going out over the water.
The listing says that all of the furniture stays with the house, which is on 1.24 acres in total. This unique home also sits on a corner lot.
Nearby Skiatook Lake is a popular recreation destination with camping, a marina, lodging and a sand beach. It has a playground park, hiking opportunities and more — perfect for families and entertaining.
The City of Skiatook itself is small. It’s in Osage and Tulsa counties in Oklahoma and has a population of about 7,500 people. The downtown area is historic and has a variety of stores, including antique dealers. There’s also a bakery, an old-fashioned drug store, a dance studio and a bar.
The town annually conducts a Pioneer Day festival at a park with vendors, art, music, a parade and more.
Skiatook sounds like a place that is both a great place to call home — and to vacation!
