Nechole Crowell was understandably distressed when her 3-month-old son, Kingston, was unresponsive. On the way to the hospital and desperate for urgent help, she spotted a police car and flagged the vehicle down.

Deputy Jeremie Nix saw Crowell and turned around to come to her aid. He then attempted several life-saving measures on the infant and, when he was unsuccessful, rushed the baby to Ocala Regional Medical Center in his patrol car.

Video from the Marion County, Florida, officer’s dash camera shows his heroic actions. Watch the dramatic footage below:

Kingston made it to the hospital in time, and he was stabilized by staff. He was then transferred to UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital for more specialized treatment. Kingston survived and is expected to make a full recovery.

Doctors credit Nix’s actions with the baby’s recovery. Crowell is overwhelmed with gratitude for the man who saved her young son’s life.

“I am thanking God and I’m just grateful and so I want the world to know that he is amazing and he’s a hero in my book, whether he’s a hero in anyone else’s or not,” she told WESH.  “And I am sure when King gets old enough to hear the story he will think he is a hero as well.”

Nix and Crowell stayed in touch, and the officer even went to visit baby Kingston in the hospital. They also Facetimed as the baby was preparing to leave the hospital on May 10. For his part, Nix says the incident was one of the most challenging and fulfilling moments of his career as a police officer.

“In my 17 years of doing this job, that was the most scary, emotional and rewarding day ever,” Nix told WKMG.

We’re so glad this hero officer was there to stay calm under pressure and save young Kingston’s life!
