The “This Is Us” cast celebrated a major milestone at the 2018 Screen Actors Guild awards on Jan. 21. The cast took home the award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, and fans of the hit show couldn’t have been happier.
Based on the reactions to the award online, people feel this was very much a well-deserved win. As you can tell from the acceptance speech, this cast realizes they wouldn’t have come this far without the support of their fans.
Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack Pearson on the show, did the honors of delivering the acceptance speech on behalf of the rest of the cast, which includes Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz and Sterling K. Brown, among others.
We’d say he hit it out of the park! Take a look for yourself in the video below:
His speech focused on the entire cast and crew, who he said work together to make the show a reality. He gave kudos to everyone from the casting directors to the writers to the assistants who rush the stars to and from their trailers to the set. And he didn’t forget to thank the devoted folks who sit down to watch the show on Tuesday nights.
“To the people that watch with us every Tuesday night and embrace this show that reflects positivity and hope and inclusion, we love you and thank you very much,” he said.
Here’s the cast, beaming as the show off their awards after their big win. You can see on their faces how proud and appreciative they are!
Ventimiglia’s heartfelt acceptance speech was enough to send everyone watching the SAG Awards reaching for the tissues or jumping up and down in excitement! Twitter was flooded with congratulatory messages, most likely typed while fighting back tears or pausing to dance some more.
“Thank you for the fun, the laughter, the tears, the journey that is This is Us,” one fan wrote:
Some fans could hardly contain their excitement:
Others were crying tears of joy:
No matter how people reacted to the news, there’s one thing fans can agree on—the win was very well-deserved.
And just when we thought we couldn’t love this talented bunch of actors any more, they went and did something so sweet: Some of the adult cast members opted not to bring dates to the awards ceremony so that they could take the younger cast members as their plus-ones. Say it with us—awwwwwww!
Here’s Metz on the red carpet with Mackenzie Hancsicsak, who plays the adolescent Kate on the show.
Shortly after the SAG award win,” This Is Us” fans finally learned how Jack died. If you haven’t yet watched the latest episode—SPOILERS AHEAD (and go watch it!). Suffice to say, the long-awaited reveal was emotional for fans, and tears were definitely flowing as the dramatic plot unfolded.
But, of course, there are still some unanswered questions, which will hopefully be revealed in the next episode:
“This Is Us” is in its second season, which will wrap up in March. If you haven’t tuned in to the show already, you might want to try and catch up before the season finale—by now, you’ve got to be curious what all of the hype is about! You can watch the show on NBC on Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. eastern/8 p.m. central.
