This Mobile Laundry Service Washes Clothes For The Homeless For Free

This is a wonderful story. Launched in 2014, Orange Sky Laundry is an Australian-based non-profit that washes the clothes of the homeless community for free. Founded by two 20 year olds, Lucas Patchett and Nicholas Marchesi, their mission is simple, “restore respect, raise health standards, and reduce strain on resources.”

They started with one van that was customized with two washers and dryers. Towing their own generator, the vans supply their own power and hook up to local facilities for water usage.

Where can you find them? They stop in at parks and drop centers and offer to wash anyone’s clothes for free. No questions, no judgement and no payment necessary.

Today, they have 5 locations in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney and SE Victoria. To date, they have washed close to 100,000 pounds of laundry.

With over 500,000 people reported homeless in the US, this type of service would be a big benefit stateside.
