This sleep pod is like a giant swaddle for adults

Hatch Sleep

Swaddling is a method of wrapping up a baby snug and tight so that they feel safe and secure. It gives a newborn the feeling of being back in the mother’s womb and is an age-old technique for helping little ones to drift off to sleep. Now, adults can get the benefit of a swaddle with an innovative new product — the Sleep Pod from Hatch Sleep.

With the tagline “Pressure On. Anxiety Off,” this “adult swaddle” uses a four-way stretch material that applies gentle pressure to your whole body, which the company promises can lessen anxiety, help you fall asleep faster and get a better quality of sleep. No comforter needed!

Check out how it works in the YouTube video below:

The video’s narrator explains that the Sleep Pod is designed around the science of deep touch pressure therapy, which is the soothing sensation many people experience with compression-based touch, such as in hugging or massage.

“Many people like the feeling of pressure against their body and find this pressure relaxing and calming,” Lynelle Schneeberg, Psy.D., a behavioral sleep psychologist and a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, told Self.

Other similar products that rely on this mechanism include weighted blankets, and there are now weighted blankets with cooling technology for hot sleepers. You can even make one yourself. If you’re often warm at night, you may also want to invest in a new set of bed sheets, which can help you get comfortable in bed in order to sleep well.

Target

Although scientific evidence that these types of products work to reduce anxiety or promote sleep is scant, anecdotally, many people swear by them.

The Sleep Pod comes in two sizes: medium for people between 4’8″ and 5’7 “and up to a size 10, or a 31-inch waist and large for those between 5’8″ and 6’4” and up to a 39-inch waist. Both sizes are $110. Its breathable fabric does not trap heat, and it can be cleaned in the washing machine.
