This SNL skit about childbirth is absolutely hilarious

When you ask moms to name the best day of their lives, many will point to the day(s) their children were born.

But while becoming a mother is obviously a monumental moment, any woman who has given birth knows that the experience is not all sunshine and rainbows.

On May 12, in advance of Mother’s Day, “Saturday Night Live” hilariously poked fun at how moms tend to look through rose-colored glasses when they recount the day they gave birth.

Host Amy Schumer plays a mom whose young son has made her breakfast in bed for Mother’s Day.

She tells him that the day he was born was the best day of her life. When he asks her what it was like, that’s when it gets interesting.

From there, Schumer goes on to remember the day fondly, but her story is interspersed with flashbacks of what really happened at the time. Like when she tells her son she wasn’t scared and had a “big smile on my face the whole time,” only to cut to a flashback of her screaming in pain as she labors.

When her terrified husband exclaims, “I’m not ready!” Schumer hits back by screaming, “You’re not a man!”

Schumer also tells her young son that ever since that fateful day, every subsequent day since has been better than the one before, while footage rolls showing her enduring the many trials and tribulations of motherhood, like getting peed on while changing a diaper and finally catching some shuteye only to have her husband tell her he’s off to play hockey as the baby wakes up crying.

Check out the funny sketch below. *Warning, there is a little crude language*

The sketch had moms everywhere LOL-ing in recognition. It also serves as a great reminder to thank moms for everything they do for their children, starting from the day there were born. Did this sketch make you want to give your mom a hug?

Moms Work 98 Hours Each Week

According to a recent study commissioned by Welch’s, if you add up the time moms spend at their paid jobs and keeping their family lives running smoothly, the average mom puts in an astounding 98 hours of work a week.

If you have kids, then you probably aren’t shocked at this finding. You live the crazy life everyday. But, isn’t it nice to see it “made official?”

A Mom’s Day Starts Early

The study, which looked at 2,000 mothers with school-aged kids in the United States, found that the average mom generally kickstarts her day at 6:23 a.m. and doesn’t wrap up work or family duties until 8:31 p.m.

That comes to a whopping 14 hours of work a day. It’s no wonder 4 in 10 moms said they felt overwhelmed with tasks all week long!

This also ties into to research showing how a large number of moms suffer from sleep deprivation. When you combine the long days and lack of sleep at night, it’s no wonder mothers feel so tired all the time.

“Forty-eight percent of women with children reported at least seven hours of sleep, compared to 62 percent of women without children,” said Kelly Sullivan, an assistant professor of epidemiology at the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health at Georgia Southern University.

New Study Supports Existing Research

Past studies have shown that moms still bear the brunt of household chores and childcare—and that holds true even for the moms who are the main breadwinners in their families. They also frequently take on the “mental load” of running their families, like noticing when supplies run out, signing the kids up for summer camp and remembering when bills need to be paid—the unseen labor that really adds to stress and exhaustion.

Essentially, women are working the hourly equivalent of more than two full-time jobs.

“The results of the survey highlight just how demanding the role of mom can be and the non-stop barrage of tasks it consists of,” Casey Lewis, MS, RD and Health & Nutrition Lead at Welch’s, told Yahoo! News.

Moms’ Tips For Staying Sane

Fortunately, moms have a few key items and people that help them out, according to Welch’s survey.

Asked what made their life with 5- to 7-year-olds a little easier, moms ranked wet wipes, children’s TV shows and apps, tablets, drive-thru meals and Netflix at the top of the list.

Helpful grandparents, babysitters and easy-to-grab healthy snacks also made their top 20 list—as well as wine, of course.

Running a family and clocking in at work is no easy task, so it’s essential for moms to be able to outsource some of that work to partners and family (and children’s shows on Netflix, of course).

Because, after all, moms clearly need some time to themselves in order to sit back and relax with a well-deserved glass of wine at the end of a 98-hour work week. So, we say cheers to all the moms out there!
