This wedding photographer surprised her grandparents with a photo shoot to celebrate their 60th anniversary

Photographer Abigail Lydick led her grandparents, George and Virginia “Ginger” Brown, to believe she was taking them out for a nice dinner to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Having traveled from their home in South Carolina to be with family in New Jersey, they were definitely up for a night on the town with their granddaughter. But Lydick actually had something else in store for them.

Lydick actually arranged for a photo shoot, set up to look like the one taken 60 years ago on the day they said, “I do.” Needless to say, the couple was surprised.

“I told them I had all this lined up for them, and they were shocked and excited and even a little nervous to be in front of the camera,” Lydick told Huffington Post. “My grandmom had never even had professional hair or makeup done before.”

Thankfully, the pair didn’t let their nerves stop them from stepping in front of the camera, all dressed up in their wedding day best.

Lydick shared the images of their very special anniversary photo shoot on her company’s Facebook page and they are absolutely stunning:

The couple can be seen laughing together, and their love of the life they’ve had together is very apparent in each and every photo:

It’s clear that this couple is just as in love as the day they wed, all those years ago:

That’s likely because they figured out a lot about marriage and forging a happy union along the way. To accompany the photos, their granddaughter shared a bit of their advice for a long-lasting union. Their tips included “don’t go to bed angry” and “maintain a good sense of humor,” and if following along with those rules can lead to a beautiful 60-year-long marriage like this one, well — they’re certainly worth a try!

This turned into a special moment for the couple, but also a memory they’ll forever share with their granddaughter. And this isn’t the first time a granddaughter has gone above and beyond to secure an incredible photo shoot for a grandparent.

When Shannon Weikley’s grandmother, Gladys, was turning 98 years old, she reached out to photographer Cara Lynn McGilvrey to help her create a very special moment to commemorate the milestone. And boy, did McGilvrey deliver!

She posted a photo series of the 98-year-old living her best life, eating cake and drinking champagne, all while wearing a tulle skirt. The photographer posted the photos on Facebook:

“When your friend asks if you can do a smash cake session for her spunky grandmother’s 98th birthday, YOU DO IT!” McGilvrey wrote on Facebook. “I was head over heels in love with this idea! Gladys was so fun and such a good sport! She is exactly who I want to be when I grow up. We should all aspire to be more like Gladys; young at heart!”

Whether it’s 60 years of marriage or a 98th birthday, these grandparents remind us all to savor life’s moments — and when you can, celebrate with a photo shoot for memories you’ll cherish forever!
