Thomas’ limited edition s’mores English muffins and mini bagels are in stores

The crunch of the graham cracker, the gooeyness of the marshmallow, that sweet, sweet taste of melted chocolate. You know what we’re talking about—summer’s favorite dessert, the s’more! The campfire treat is so popular, in fact, that approximately 50 percent of marshmallows sold in the summer are roasted for the treat and Hershey’s produces enough chocolate every year to make 746 million s’mores.

But, like all delicious things, America still can’t seem to get enough. From frappuccinos to Pop-tarts and even vodka, s’mores-flavored products are popping up everywhere. Now, we can add one more s’mores treat to our shopping list: English muffins and bagels!

The Thomas’ brand’s newest product arrived in stores on May 15, just in time for summer. According to a press release from the company, the s’more flavor received great reviews during consumer focus group testing.

“Enjoying S’mores around the fire on a summer night is a nostalgic memory treasured by generations,” Jon Silvon, a vice president for Thomas’ parent company, Bimbo Bakeries USA, said in the press release. “We’re continually innovating our Limited Edition lineup, and with the recent demand for all things S’mores, we knew pairing this iconic flavor with the iconic Nooks and Crannies English Muffin would be a tremendous hit with our fans.”

While there doesn’t seem to be a firm answer on where s’mores came from, they appear to date back to at least 1927, when a recipe called “some mores” appeared in a Girl Scouts’ book. Other reports say they date back as far as the Victorian era, and still others indicate that s’mores were inspired by Mallomars and MoonPies from the 1900s.

Regardless of how they got their start, s’mores are certainly here to stay. The new Thomas’ products are not, however. Come September, they’ll be replaced with pumpkin spice English muffins for the fall. Other flavors the company rotates throughout the year include cranberry during the holiday season, maple French toast at the beginning of the year and banana chocolatey chip for spring.

So toast up these summery English muffins as fast as you can—because we seriously can’t think of anything better than s’mores for breakfast.
