Exhausted moms everywhere are loving this ‘Thriller’ parody video about life with toddlers
Chances are that you’ve heard of goblins and ghosts and monsters and zombies. But have you ever heard of “mombies”?
A “mombie” is a combination of a mom and a zombie. If you’re a mom, you know that the special type of exhaustion that can only be reached by caring nonstop for little ones can, in fact, make you feel like a zombie.
Machel Green explores the concept with a hilarious parody of Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video. Green’s version is called “Toddler,” and the “undead” in her video are super-tired moms.
Set to the tune of “Thriller,” the moms in the video sing about the soul-crushing experience that is being woken up by a toddler in the middle of the night and attempting to potty train them at an ungodly hour.
Here’s a sampling of the hilarious lyrics:
“You wanna scream!
Your cleaning pee and poop instead of sleeping.
Now wash the sheets
And you really cannot believe the time
You’re out of your mind!
‘Cuz this is toddler! Toddler nights
The beast is running from you while you’re chasing it with wipes.”
While spooky and exhausted-looking moms wander around like true zombies, a creepy voice interjects, “The foulest stench is in the air, the funk of all your nightmares, and the kid in the next room is crying out to seal your doom. And while you fight to stay awake, your mind starts to wander, for no mere mortal can resist the cries of a toddler.”
The moms go on to perfectly execute the classic dance moves from the original video (which, if you haven’t watched recently — here is it for you!).
Parents Are Loving It
People on YouTube found the parody pretty hilarious and also totally relatable.
“It takes a parent to truly understand this,” read one comment.
“HA!!!!! That was a blast. Single Dad and been right there with you! VERY clever!!!” said another.
“Hahaha love it! I’m a mom of 5 kids and this is so real hahaha that’s how I look in the middle of the night, I always have thought that I look and walk like a zombie then you come up with this hilarious 😀 so funny! Awesome work!” added another mom.
What About That Disclaimer?
By the way, wondering about the disclaimer at the start of the Mombies video that it “in no way endorses a belief in the occult?” It turns out Jackson had a similar disclaimer run at the start of his “Thriller” video as well, added in response to religious pushback.
One more fun “Thriller” fact? The video was added to the Library of Congress in 2009, becoming one of a handful of music videos to be preserved there.
