Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks are a bright light of love in Hollywood — a place that generally can’t be relied upon for “happily ever after.”
Most Hollywood marriages have a shorter lifespan than the goldfish your kid won at a summer carnival. From stars like Cher and Gregg Allman (married just 18 days) to Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman (9 days) to Britney Spears and Jason Alexander (55 hours!), Hollywood seems like Kryptonite to marriage vows.
That’s why Hanks and Wilson are so inspiring and touching. The couple have been married since 1988, and they just celebrated their 30-year wedding anniversary. To mark the occasion, they both posted sweet messages on social media about their “golden” anniversary, as well as a throwback picture from their wedding day.
As you can see, it’s a collage of their wedding photo posted alongside a current picture of the two. It looks like a life-sized cutout of the wedding photo, and it makes us wonder who made it … perhaps one of their kids (Colin, Elizabeth, Chet or Truman). Or maybe it was one of their many friends who attended their 30th anniversary party on April 29. Celebrity guests included Oprah Winfrey, Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
Whoever the artist is, they deserve kudos! This photo captures the sweet, epic romance between Hanks and Wilson, and it’s a true testament to their lasting love of 30 years.
So what’s their secret to a marriage that stands the test of time? Honesty. And humor!
“We learned the secret of happiness with each other a long time ago and that’s always telling the truth,” Hanks told “Today” in 2017.
For her part, Wilson has said that her recent battle with breast cancer (she was diagnosed in 2015 with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy) made her realize just how amazing her husband truly is.
“You never know how your spouse is going to react in a situation like this,” she told The New York Times in 2015. “I was so amazed, so blown away by the care my husband gave me.”
That is so sweet. They may be mega-stars, but it’s easy to see that this couple is very down-to-earth — and very much in love even three decades after their wedding day.
