I Tried Bubly, The New Sparkling Water From PepsiCo And Here’s What I Thought

Did you know that the average American drinks over 38 gallons of soda a year? Considering that people who drink a lot of soda are more likely to deal with serious health concerns like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, weight gain and dental problems, it might be time for some — OK, a lot — of us to consider kicking the soda habit.

That’s why I love sparkling water so much. It’s lighter but still has that carbonated bite and there are so many options for flavors these days. One of my current favorites is Simply Balanced’s Cucumber Lime Sparkling Water; it makes me feel like I am hanging out in a spa even when I am really folding socks.

Alas, Simply Balanced and other sparkling water brands like La Croix and Dasani have some more competition. There is a new sparkling water on the shelves that is as addicting as soda — and I know because I tried them.

I am talking about bubly, the newest addition to the ultra-hot sparkling water category.PepsiCo, the company behind 7up, Mountain Dew, Pepsi, and Gatorade, introduced bubly this month and the new beverage keeps it real with no artificial flavors, calories or added sweeteners. But more importantly, it’s just delicious.

Ever since discovering this new sparkling water line, I have found myself reaching for a can instead of having unneeded junk food. I will admit I have even been choosing to have bubly at night instead of a glass of wine (okay, I definitely miss the wine, but I am trying to lose the baby weight before my kid is old enough to drive).

What’s so playful about bubly? Well, other than the light and (ha ha) bubbly taste, each can also has a hidden message that will make you smile. The cute, colorful packaging has messages on the tab that say things like “Hey u,” “hiii,” and “yo,” and the sides of the can have their own funny phrases like “hold cans with me.” Sparkling water with a sense of humor? I like it.

Bubly comes in eight flavors: limebubly, grapefruitbubly, strawberrybubly, lemonbubly, orangebubly, applebubly, mangobubly and cherrybubly. As you can see, they come in a rainbow of colors:

I have tried almost of all them, and my top favorites are grapefruitbubly and strawberrybubly. It’s incredible how the water tastes so authentically like the fruit in question yet still manages to be zero calories. I hope they keep adding to the flavors because I could definitely use a cucumber flavor or even a spicy jalapeno flavor. How awesome would that be?

My other favorite thing about bubly is that it would be perfect to have on hand as a non-alcoholic drink at parties. Not everyone wants to drink whether it’s because they are sober, on medication or they are the designated driver. So it’s nice to have a non-boozy drink on hand that still feels special and a little fancy.

You can find bubly at your local grocery store or stores such as Target. Cheers!
