Tyson Recalled Nearly 40,000 Pounds Of Chicken Over ‘extraneous Matter’

If you have frozen chicken patties in your freezer, you’ll want to pay close attention to this recall notice. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a recall notice on Aug. 15 to warn consumers of a health risk involving 39,078 pounds of Tyson Foods frozen chicken patties available for sale across the United States.
According to the recall, Weaver brand fully-frozen chicken patties produced on Jan. 31, 2019 “may be contaminated with extraneous materials.”
The USDA sent out the recall alert after Tyson Foods heard from customers who found the foreign material in their chicken patties. Neither Tyson Foods nor the FSIS has identified what was found in the recalled chicken.
The recall affects Weaver’s 26-ounce resealable plastic bags containing “chicken breast patties: breaded chicken breast patties with rib meat” with a best-if-used-by date of “Jan312020.” The recalled patties also have the establishment number “P-13456” printed on the back of the bag.

The USDA classified this action as a Class I recall. This means the affected product “is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”
Anyone who experiences an injury or illness due to the consumption of the recalled product should reach out to their health care provider immediately.
If you have one of these bags of chicken patties, you should return them to the store or throw them out immediately.
